The number of COVID-19 clusters in Malaysia’s various school districts and educational institutions has been on the rise.  While authorities are rolling out vaccinations for children, non-compliance with COVID-19 regulations has been attributed to this rise.  There were also reports of teachers with symptoms still showing up for class.

In as little as two weeks, there has been a 313.33% increase of COVID-19 clusters among Malaysian schools.  Malacca alone has had some massive spikes according to the Health Department.

Malaysian School COVID-19 Clusters Spike

1. MALACCA – Malacca Health Department director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said four Covid clusters reported in the state showed a very worrying trend.  As of January 25th, four clusters involving 261 students has been on the upward trend.

“I find it worrying that out of these four clusters, there is one case of the Omicron variant.  The increase is very clear and I am not surprised if, for example, other schools, especially hostels, will become victims if we are not careful.  Hence, we request the cooperation of all parties to comply with the standard operating procedures, and don’t be complacent,” he said.

2. SABAH – Four more education clusters were recorded in Sabah early February.  The Sabah COVID-19 spokesman said that four new clusters included the Jalan Tandek and Jalan Taman Beringin in Kota Marudu; and the Jalan Pendidikan Ranau and Sungai Batang Batu Sepuluh Clusters in Sandakan.

3. PETALING JAYA – The health ministry has detected over 107 COVID-19 clusters in various educational institutions within PJ since the new year, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.  These clusters included 4,633 cases from January 1st-January 25th, 2022.

The College of Paediatrics Malaysia said on Jan 20 that it strongly supported the government’s move to inoculate young children.

It said reports indicate that children infected with the Omicron variant have a 20 per cent higher risk of hospitalisation compared with those with the Delta variant.

It also noted that in the United States, paediatric Covid-19 admissions rose by 48 per cent in the final week of December 2021 alone. “Many of these children were unvaccinated or under-vaccinated,” it said.

How Little Human Scholars is Doing to Prevent COVID-19 Clusters Within Their Schools

Even before the onset of COVID-19, Little Human Scholars (LHS) preschool, playschool, kindergarten and daycare centre already took sanitisation procedures very seriously. In fact, you can read here, from an article several years ago, about just HOW serious we are about our students’ health, well-being and safety.  Needless to say, we’ve always been obsessed with sanitation at our schools!  We have been taking our students’ temperatures at the door since 2015!

But since the rise of COVID-19, we have revamped and have become even MORE obsessed.  In fact, check out our new updated safety requirements here.  All of the teachers and staff at LHS have been exceedingly meticulous when it comes to social distancing, masking and sanitation.

In summary, it’s been a difficult past couple of years, but we will prevail!  LHS out of Petaling Jaya is doing everything in its’ power to keep their students healthy and engaged.  For more information, look at some of our new COVID-19 Updated Safety Requirements.

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full-day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS school in PJ has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full-day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app that provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.
