Finding out whether you child is an introvert or an extrovert has many benefits:

  1. You understand their behaviours and learning styles better.
  2. You know what makes them comfortable and uncomfortable.
  3. You understand why they hang out with ALL the kids in their class, or just one or two.

As life goes on, their personal preferences and tendencies impact everything from their social life, career and even with their own eventual children and families.   Keep in mind, there are pros and cons to both personality types.

Pros and Cons to Being an Introvert

Self-Aware of themselves and their behaviours

Meaningful conversations.

Enjoys being alone and is comfortable with it.

Accepting and empathetic of others.

Being prepared.

Deep thinking.

Overthinking and overanalysing.

Misjudged by others.

Dating can be difficult.

Needing alone-time to recharge.

Feeling like you don’t fit in.

Pros and Cons to Being an Extrovert

Conversing well with others.

Doer mentality.

Easy to communicate and express thoughts and feelings.

More sociable – easy to meet new people.

Easily Bored.

Unhappy being alone.

Can be difficult to understand introverts.

What can be confusing for parents is their child might be extroverted at home in a familiar environment with close friends and family, but actually be introverted.  It can depend on a variety of factors, namely how familiar they are with an environment.  This can make it difficult for parents to pinpoint whether their child is an introvert or an extrovert.  Here are some ways you can tell if your child is introverted or extroverted.

How To Tell if Your Child is an Introvert or an Extrovert

  1. Do they need a break after socialising with other kids? Do they go home and want to sit still and be quiet, or do they just want to be alone?  This is a tendency of an introverted child.
  2. Do they get bored easily and you find the best way to keep them occupied with by having little playmates around them? This is a tendency of an extroverted child.
  3. Do they have children surrounding them at school with a lot of friends? This is an extroverted tendency.
  4. If they usually only play with one or two children, they may be more introverted.
  5. Are they speakers or listeners? Speakers tend to be more extroverted while listeners are more introverted.
  6. Are they OK with change or do they resist it? Are they happier sticking with routine or are they able to change routine without fighting it?  Introverts tend to dislike change whereas extroverts tend to be no so bothered by change.
  7. Are they distracted easily or can they keep a good focus? Introverts tend to be able to focus more while extroverts can be distracted easily.
  8. Where extroverts are open and love to meet new people, introverts are more reserved and have a tendency of sitting back and watching before involving themselves.
  9. Where an extrovert can make decisions quickly, and introvert may reflect on the choices before settling on a decision.
  10. Extroverts have no problem offering their ideas and thoughts, whereas introverts have a tendency to share when prompted.

That being said, be sure to observe your child in social settings.  They may be totally different around you than they are in school because they are comfortable with you and their home environment.  There have been many a mommy confused – they think their child is extroverted only to find out after school starts that they are more reserved, quiet and observant in the classroom.  Neither is right or wrong – it is about understanding your child and learning how to work with them instead of against them!

About Little Human Scholars School and Full Day Daycare Centre in PJ

Little Human Scholars is an all-in-one childcare solution.  It is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full day daycare centre (with extended hours) located in the heart of PJ.

In fact, the location is one of the things which makes Little Human Scholars so sought after – it is conveniently nestled near Jalan Gasing, University hospital, PJ Old town, PJ New town, Jaya One, Jaya33, and the PJ IT Mall.

The best part is LHS has premiere services many other schools in PJ don’t offer such as full-day daycare with extended hours, CCTV access for parents, and a nifty little phone app called Toddlytic which provides parents with automatic updates on their child’s development, behaviour and health checks.

With full-time guards always present at each of their locations, access to CCTV (which is in every room except the office, bathroom and kitchen areas), and very strict pick-up and drop-off rules, Little Human Scholars treats every child who walks into its hallways as one of their own children!

This place has it all:  location, safety, health, IGSCE curriculum and play-based learning.  What more could you ask for?  Did I mention they also have transportation services and offer meal plans for students?  It doesn’t get any better than that.

If you are interested in a tour of one of our centres (that’s right, there’s more than one), all you need to do is fill out the form here or call +6017-7303-025 and an LHS administrative staff will get back with you shortly!
