One of the issues I have faced as a parent is believing, or rather deluding myself, that I have enough time – this was especially true during my child’s first day of school. I have always believed I had enough time to get my daughter geared up for the new school year, I had enough time to enrol her, I had enough time to buy her back-to-school items. The issue is, I am still doing it! I find myself thinking I have enough time to think about her college education, I have enough time for birthday shopping… the list goes on and on, and it always ends up in a last-minute rush to get everything done! So, in an effort to squash my habit of procrastination, here is a list of all the things you should have ready before you enrol your child into school for the first time.
Checklist for Your Child’s First Day of School
- Immunisations and a Physical Exam;
Make sure your children has had their visit to the doctor and that they are fit to enrol in a new school. Immunisations are also a plus. Keep in mind that regardless of the school, children do have a tendency of picking up germs from other young children, so runny noses, coughs and fevers are normal. Little Human Scholars kindergarten, preschool, playschool and daycare in PJ follows strict sanitization measures such as washing hands before and after meals as well as after using the restroom. They also have hand sanitizer dispensers all throughout the school. While we can’t promise that your child will never get sick while building up their immune systems, we do ensure that they will be as healthy as possible!
- Ensure proper wardrobe is in place;
In playschool as well as kindergarten and preschool, there is a lot of play time. Ensuring your child has the proper footwear, change of clothes (in case of any accidents) and sweaters (in case they start feeling cold in an air-conditioned room) will support them in being more focused during class.
- Water bottles and lunch boxes/bags (if the school doesn’t provide in-school lunches);
If you are planning on packing snacks or lunches for your child, then purchasing the necessities are important! Little Human Scholars provides both snacks and lunches for children for a small additional fee, and even incorporates food choices such as vegan and vegetarian in their school menu if needed!
- Get your children on a proper “school night” routine a couple weeks before school starts;
This is very important. You don’t want your child having a cranky first day because they went to bed at midnight and had to wake up at 7am to get ready for school. Most toddlers and children under five (5) need ten (10) to twelve (12) hours of sleep each night. So if they are going to wake up at 7am, you may want to make sure they are showered, fed and in bed most nights at 7 pm!!
- Make sure your camera is ready and charged for that first day of school (and sunglasses and tissues if you fear you may be a little emotional)’
It isn’t just your child’s first day of school, it is as though they are walking into their future! These are often their first steps away from their parents, and mommies and daddies can feel a little emotional when this happens!! Make sure your camera is ready, or have your phone ready for that first day – you are going to want to remember everything!
In summary, getting your child ready for their first day of school does take a little planning, but it is worth it in the end. Little Human Scholars is a preschool, playschool, kindergarten, nursery and full daycare centre with two locations in Petaling Jaya. They are located near Jaya One, Jaya 33, Universiti Hospital, PJ Old Town and PJ New Town. The teachers are highly trained and skilled, absolutely love children and practice a lot of compassion and tenderness in their classrooms. If that isn’t enough, if you find yourself missing your child on the first day, or ANY day of the school year, they have full CCTV access available to parents of enroled students via phone app. To visit the school or to enrol your child for next year, fill out the form HERE or call +6017-7303-025. A representative will get back with you shortly!
Cheers!
